Olympia Framed Poster by Cy Twombly: A Masterpiece of Gestural Abstraction
Cy Twombly's Olympia is a striking example of his unique approach to abstraction, blending classical references with raw, gestural mark-making. This museum-quality framed poster captures the essence of Twombly's iconic style, making it a sophisticated addition to any art collection. Our Cy Twombly Framed Prints Wall Art collection offers this and other masterworks, each reproduced with meticulous attention to detail.
Art Historical Context
Created in 1957, Olympia reflects Twombly's fascination with classical mythology and literature, as well as his response to the avant-garde movements of his time. The work's title references Édouard Manet's notorious 1863 painting Olympia, but Twombly reinterprets the subject through a lens of abstraction, using scribbles, smudges, and scrawled text to evoke a sense of fragmented memory and desire. This piece is a testament to Twombly's ability to merge the past with the present, creating art that is both timeless and radically modern.
