Leda and the Swan Poster by Cy Twombly – A Modernist Masterpiece
Cy Twombly's Leda and the Swan is a striking example of his unique ability to blend classical mythology with abstract expressionism. This museum-quality poster captures the raw energy and poetic ambiguity of Twombly's original work, inviting you to explore the intersection of myth, desire, and form.
Twombly, a pivotal figure in post-war American art, often drew inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman literature. His Leda and the Swan series reimagines the myth of Zeus's transformation into a swan to seduce Leda, resulting in the birth of Helen of Troy. Through gestural marks and layered scrawls, Twombly evokes the passion and violence of the encounter without literal depiction, leaving interpretation to the viewer.
