Art Historical Significance and Technique
Cy Twombly (1928–2011) was an American artist known for his large-scale, calligraphic works that blend drawing, painting, and writing. 'Sunset' belongs to his later series where he explored the visceral power of color and line. Twombly's technique involved rapid, impulsive marks, often using oil, acrylic, and crayon, creating a raw, emotional intensity. This piece exemplifies his ability to evoke mood through abstract means, where the warm hues and sweeping strokes suggest the fading light of dusk.
