Created in Rome in 1962, this work is part of Twombly's celebrated series inspired by the tragic Greek myth of Hero and Leander, and dedicated to the Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe, whose own poetic retelling of the tale left an indelible mark on Twombly's imagination. Our museum-quality framed poster captures the raw energy and poetic nuance of Twombly's original, bringing a piece of art history into your home.

Artistic Significance and Technique

Twombly, a pivotal figure in post-war abstraction, was renowned for his unique fusion of drawing, painting, and writing. In this piece, he employs his signature gestural marks, scrawls, and smudges that evoke both classical antiquity and modern existentialism. The work's seemingly chaotic surface is actually a carefully orchestrated symphony of emotion, where the artist's hand becomes a conduit for the ancient story. The original, created in Rome, reflects Twombly's deep engagement with Mediterranean culture and history, which he absorbed after relocating to Italy in the late 1950s.

This framed poster is a faithful reproduction of that masterwork, allowing you to experience the subtle textures and nuanced tones that define Twombly's aesthetic. Each print is produced using archival techniques on FSC-certified, 250 gsm matte paper, ensuring that the delicate balance of line and color is preserved for generations. The natural white, uncoated finish provides an authentic, gallery-like viewing experience, free from distracting glare.

Exquisite Craftsmanship, Ready to Hang

Our framed posters are designed for the discerning collector who values both beauty and convenience.
